I haven't quite decided
If it is interesting or infuriating how some people think.
Took the grandkids to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World Friday and Saturday and had a fun birthday dinner for my bonus grandson at Benihana.
We did this because when they visited us in July he asked if we would come for his birthday. Pretty hard to say no.
I call him my bonus grandson because that is what he is. He is my daughter's sort of step son....My daughter and her boyfriend are not married. I wish they were, but they aren't and it is none of my business, so I keep my mouth shut. Together the made the nicest granddaughter you could imagine. So, I will call him my son in law...even though he isn't really.
Custody of my bonus grandson is split (not evenly) and while I know it takes two to tango, from what my daughter has said, my son in law's ex is nuts and her parents are nuts too....
When my daughter was pregnant, I did not know these details, however once I met my bonus grandson, I told her that I had no intention of treating him any different than my granddaughter. It seems to have worked out because he calls me grandpa and when they visit or we do, he is always excited to see us.
They are in Arizona....a long way from Wisconsin so visits do not happen often, however there are generally multiple phone calls per week and when he is there, the grandson is always included. He is a good kid and the only complaint I would have is that he spends too much time on video games....but again...he is a kid.
In any case, my son in law is in the process of trying to get 50/50 custody and it really is stacked against him, even though he is a genuine good guy. And I am a judgemental mother fucker, so take my word for it.
My daughter told me that my grandson's mother's parents have been badmouthing us. Not that we have ever met them or talked to them or even know what they look like. Apparently we treat him like shit and when he is with us he only gets scraps. I laughed when she told me this and told her that I really didn't care what someone I never met thinks of me...shit I barely care what people I actually know think of me. Especially when there is no truth...but...the more I thought about it, the more I realize that this is just a way for them to make my son in law's efforts more difficult. If they paint us as bad people and if they even gaslight my grandson into thinking this, it works in their favor. If they are jealous of us, it is ridiculous. We would never interfere with them or attempt to influence his thoughts of them.
It really is none of my business, but the fact that these people are manipulating a 12 year old is pretty despicable. My daughter told me that my son in law's mother initially got wind of it and confronted them and told them we were really good people who had treated her grandson great....this made me feel good and really is a pretty good compliment considering that we have only been in the picture for a bit over 3 years.
Both grandkids had a great time this last weekend and my grandson told me that the birthday dinner was the best he ever had. I am pretty sure he didn't consider it to be scraps.
What the fuck is the matter with people....I told my daughter to document everything good and bad. In reality, none of it is my business....after all...he is only my grandaughter's half brother...
