Why can’t there be play dates for adults?

I’m at an age where making new friends seems awkward, and yet here we are. How do you go about making new friendships, and what do you hope to get out of them?

I'm always up for new friends. Being married makes it hard to do so. I had some good friends but they moved or situations changed and they don't go out as much. A lot of effort for nothing in the end. I just end up in bars talking to random people i never see again.
