Why can’t there be play dates for adults?

I’m at an age where making new friends seems awkward, and yet here we are. How do you go about making new friendships, and what do you hope to get out of them?

All of my adult friends and I mean all, I have met at work. I’m only just under 2 years out so maybe I’ll meet a couple of new ones one day, now that I’m self employed or when I move house or something. All of my other friends I met at school or college.
