Why can’t there be play dates for adults?

I’m at an age where making new friends seems awkward, and yet here we are. How do you go about making new friendships, and what do you hope to get out of them?

At work and at church I just made a point of talking to people. Same thing when I moved into my neighborhood, I made it a point to say wave hello to my neighbors when I’d walk my dog…he’s cute, goofy and very friendly which definitely helped….but eventually they’d stop and talk to me and we became friends.
