In the mid 1970s my half brother bought one of these King-midgets and completely redesigned the guts of it.

I helped with it so I know exactly what he did. Pretty smart really.

Changed out the 9 HP engine. Put in a Brigs and Stratton 16 HP industrial engine that opperated at a steady RPM.

Because of steady RPM he changed out the variable belt transmission with a snowmobile "V" belt transmission so while engine operated that one RPM the torc converter offered a variable speed.

Finally he got experimental licensing so he could drive it on the freeways here.

It was slow yet funny riding in this little tiny car down the I5 freeway. A red little flag swaying and bumper sticker on back saying "Don't honk I'm peddling as fast as I can".

Thing actually did get up to 55mph perhaps a tiny bit faster.

Many people did honk, in fun, as well!

It was the same exact color as this! 馃檭
