Do you come from a land down under?

Tell me about life in Australia. Anything you want to tell me. I admire Australian people; they always seem kind, fun loving and adventurous. One day I am going to visit the land down under.

I first fell in love with Australians watching the movie On The Beach in 1959. They seemed to handle the end of the world pretty well. They were all so calm, sensible and brave facing the end. For years, I couldn't hear the movie's theme music without crying (Waltzing Matilda). If the end really does come, and I'm still here, I'm going to Australia and die with the Aussies.

That's great - but "On the Beach",really? It was just a movie - and one which was not particularly well-received by the public here in Australia when it was released.But I hope that you can make it here one day - like everywhere else,we're a little different now to the world of 1959!

@craig7 Why do you think it wasn't well received by Aussies?

@greenmountaingal Although I remember it was a big deal having major stars like Gregory Peck,Ava Gardner and Fred Astaire here - it was a pretty gloomy subject for a movie during the Cold War,leaving the audience with a sense that there is no hope.The scene in which people sing "Waltzing Matilda" was seen as ridiculously unrealistic here at the time too.

@craig7 Is that singing scene a fishing contest and a group of campers are fishing and singing?

@greenmountaingal Yes I think so.
