Is it really gone?

Santa Claus is Coming to Town was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie in 1934.

J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. Their names sound like a song. I had a great uncle Grover Livingston. Is it me or did names used to have more character? It feels like originality has shifted from that musicality to “how can I spell this so no one will ever get it right?” Maybe I’m just coloring everything with my overdeveloped love of nostalgia.

I think naming was often more colorful in the deep past, late 1800s early 1900s. Some of it stems from names being derived from ancestors names, I know some of my great grandparents had first names and middle names that matched their previous ancestors last names and it resulted in a more colorful naming. It also gave hints of how to approach the family tree.
I think names are cyclic, like fashion. My grandmothers names were Ethel, and Sadie, my grandfathers were John (Jack), and Frederick.

I've never quite understood why males named John often were called Jack, JFK being one of the most notable.
