After my late ex fiancee died in november 2010 I moved back to iowa in december 2010 feom Las Vegas, I had to transfer trains at the Amtrack station in Genesee, Illinois, they just had a blizzard the day before, I went from 51F to -10F in a matter of 42 hours. I completely forgot how cold cold can really get.
@Zaphod42 I was 95 miles away when she blew, having turned ten just three weeks before, within a few days we had about 20 grocery bags full of ash in our garage from our sidewalk and driveway. We were not allowed to rinse it into the gutters as the ash was actually superfine pukverized ash and would have clogged the pipes. At that time we didn't know better and took our collected ash to the county landfill, today after almost 44 years, each bag would be worth tens of thousands of dollars, some glass blowing artists turned the ash into masterpieces that are now worth millions, and really hard to find due to the super rarity of pure ash now.
@Zaphod42 Back then we were thinking, "Could part of Harry Truman be in that ash?" We had major ick issues going on with him and the other 56 that lost their lives. Ash crystals were also found around St Helens, ash transformed by the lightning in the cloud.
