Does it seem like people these days just aren't into having a connection?
It feels like the majority of people are distant, especially over the last five years.

Maybe some aren't, but it's not everyone
And some of us are just very selective in getting close and not wanting any connection that isn't very deep, we don't want to invest ourselves too much into anything potentially fleeting, fickle, superficial, or illusory, we hunger for the deepest connection of all and are not optimistic about finding it once we've already glimpsed the real thing but situations prevent being able to hold onto it
