Reading the posts today there seem to be many lonely people.

Social media was supposed to make people more connected to others. But it isn’t the problem, it’s how people use it.

People use social media to replace face to face conversations, over a meal or a drink or just catching up. They try to edit what people see, this false representation only deepens the gap between people.

I keep my presence online to a few quiet moments on a weekend. I try to keep my time open for moments that really matter.

Nothing important or lasting has ever happened on Similar Worlds. All the real moments happen when you’re logged off and sat beside someone.

People cannot fully represent who they are online, and their personalities are filtered through others' perceptions.
So, you do not get a full picture of who this person is you are talking to.
If you have known for years, have been observant, and had some conversations, you get a better idea, but still not the full picture.
We get to know people by observing them in real time, day after day, and that is not possible online.

Maybe that is why a lot of online romances come to an end when they actually meet or move in together.
It isn't always that the person misrepresented themselves.
Only, they could not represent themselves fully online, and so when the faults and follies of being a human show themselves, it may be too much for the other person or both parties.

That's just your perception. I don't see much difference between rolling on the floor laughing from something someone said sitting next to me and from some specific conversation I participated in on here. Actually, there were times I had much more fun on here than while sitting with acquaintances in a bar looking at time wondering if I should catch the bus home now or risk having to wait for another hour for the next one bored while they'd gradually get more and more drunk and less and less entertaining. Besides, it's a little bit more tolerated to get up and join a conversation some strangers are having at the next table. 🙈 Maybe it's still budging in but I would never do that in real life.

@CrazyMusicLover Suit yourself.

Exactly what Justmeraeagain said.

It isn't entirely false representation. People also see what they want to see in their interpretations, perceptions and projections.
And people do and can use this how they choose to use it. Sometimes it's merely a place to express, and for catharsis.

Social media can often be a source of relief. We come here to ease our stressful moments, but seeing the pain others are going through naturally makes us feel more grateful.

Yes. Consider yourself fortunate you haven't used social media as a crutch for real, live, human interaction with all its faults, joys, nuances and intricacies. ❤

hmm.... I'm virgin I used to feel lonely. Until I realize how good morning wood felt and I will probably feel dirty if I had sex with a girl. I just need to find a job and buy a car and surely some girls will come my way.

I'll stick to social media. Not interested in hanging with anyone. I'm happy staying home with my 4 Frenchies.

@minoltaguy The male equivalent of “crazy cat lady”. If you’re content with it, then that’s fine.

How peculiar. Based on their posts I can see why.
Bang on correct. Treat it like X!

@BritishFailedAesthetic Yes precisely. It’s a diversion, not the main game.
