The solace is being there for him, and listening when he needs to talk about it. It's in him knowing that you care that he is hurting.

From my personal experience, I was able to get over the breakup by first letting go. I let go of all hope of getting back together and making it work. I then found something I always wanted to do but never found time to to do. It took some time, but I was able to get over it.

Just be there for him. You don't need to talk or solve his problems. You can't.
Just you being there will help him feel he's not alone.
So just be you.
Just you being there will help him feel he's not alone.
So just be you.

Providing him company is still going to make him feel better than being alone so don't stress

You don't have to say anything. All you have to do is listen. A hug now and then is probably nice, too.

Unfortunately there’s nothing you can say, just be there to listen.

Just listen to him, ask him what he needs, maybe you can help. Maybe he just wants company.
