I drank to get drunk for 25 years to forget a very abusive childhood. 6 months after I stopped drinking, the fog lifted from my mind and all those abuses came flooding back. Causing a mental collapse. So, drinking to forget in the short term is very effective. But the issues are still there and need to be dealt with.

I drank myself stupid trying to kill the pain and memories...15 years later I woke up....the things I was running from were still there waiting for me to deal with and I lost 15 years of my life. Not worth it
