Would you consider this the truth
I got told I was self centered by someone who has known me a week . Would you take that as the truth or not listen because they barely know you ?

It kind of depends on their reason. If they can't give you a specific and valid example of you being self-centered then their opinion is irrelevant in my point of view. I think it's less about how long they've known you and more about how much effort they put into getting to know you.
