Anyone else have a friend who is really, really ill?

I have a friend with stage 3b inoperable lung cancer. He just finished his first round of chemo and radiation, did that for 6 weeks, and then went home where he became ill with pneumonia. He was hospitalized again, and then released to a rehab facility because his muscles are beginning to atrophy, and 4 days ago came down with a galloping case of C. Difficile. The rehab where he is staying is filthy with it, and the unsanitary practices are to blame.

I don't know how a weakened man, with lung cancer, is supposed to survive pneumonia and now this.

He sounds okay, on the phone, but I am afraid this will be the end of him.

I am so sorry your friend is going through this. Just one week ago I lost a dear friend to cancer. She was diagnosed some 18 months ago with stage 4 grade 3 cancer in her liver. She had secondaries and it was bleak from.the outset.

All I can say is just continue being the friend they need. Regular texts, jokes, hugs. Offer to drive them. Ask them what they need to put affairs in order.
