people who only call you when they need something?

I cut them out of my life. They aren't friends. They're users.

Call them when you need something.

It depends on whether I get value from the friendship and how they react if I can't give them what they need.

My attitude toward this has changed as I grew older. If I have what they need and can give it without expecting repayment in kind, I do.

Some day I might need something, whether it's a laugh or car repairs, and they may have it.

Sometimes you CAN'T dump them out of your life because they are family. My former sister-in-law used to hurt my feelings because I genuinely liked her, but she was a user. She had a substance abuse problem, and that is typical of drunks and druggies.

If a "friend" does that, I block their number after I realize what they are.

I never make myself out to be the “go to” person in the first place. If you are useless every time they come to you they will eventually stop and then if you never hear from them, then they aren’t really friends now are they?

I just blocked that person

That describes almost all of them.
