Why is it so hard to make friends these days?

Call me close-minded, but in the last 5 years I've noticed that it's gotten alot harder to find and make genuine friends anymore. My interests just don't align with alot of others at all, which makes sense. I was never the most popular kid in School at all, but I always found it hard to make friends. It's depressing because all the friends I had for a long time are finally moving on with their lives, while I'm still going at a turtle pace. It feels like I'm stuck, and can't even find new friends to compensate for my old ones leaving.

Is there any advice from others who have felt the same way in the past? Or maybe even are feeling the same way now? How can I get myself out there better?

it's not a priority to make friends, it's nice to have them. So don't feel pressure or a need to make friends just for the sake of making friends. Its nice to have people to talk to. Which you can do here or with whomever you know. Find forums with people that share your same interests, that would be a good possible start. You should invest in something for yourself, you said your old friends are moving on in their life. You should do the same, invest in a skill, a new hobby. Doing that will also promote new possible friends for you to have. Find people who want you be the best you you can be.

@SW-User I see what you're saying, and normally I'd agree. However, I've done just that for the past couple of years and it hardly has gotten me anywhere. While it is a wise idea to invest myself into something that will help, I still have difficulty finding that area right now. For everyone, it's different.. Thanks for the input though :3
