I'm neuro-divergent, introverted, and very socially phobic so I don't go out unless I need to. I don't approach people in public especially women, and I don't socialise with people from my work outside work.

I've never been a friends person from the day I was born, and it's probably hard-wired into me since I've always been like it.

I prefer to be alone (apart from time with my kids) unless I have to go to work or something else away from home.

I don't usually have visitors at home (except my kids, or tradies, or when my second ex shows up (something to with my 9 y/o daughter). I don't have parties or social gatherings.

I also don't do adult romantic sexual intimacy very well, maybe why I've had two relationships that failed and I'm too frightenened to try again now I'm in my 50's to have another go at one.

Pursue hobbies, join clubs, do volunteer work, take an adult education course.

Here's an easy, direct method:

1. Go on your local area's subreddit.
2. Make or find a post saying you want to make friends IRL.
3. Respond to people in DMs and set up a meeting in a public setting.
4. Hang out with them IRL. If you like them, give them your contact info.
5. Continue setting up hangouts with those friends indefinitely.
6. Repeat on an as-needed basis until you have a big, healthy friend circle.
People you work with are the best way although often situational. Ive kept in touch with many of my coworkers.

Try to get connect to old ones. New ones can only be good acquaintance ( hardly few very good ones truly become friends)

Break the ice

You don't need to "start a conversation." You just need a contextual opener. Like "What do you do around here?" Most people are open to a quick chat. Some are more talkers than others. Take me, I'm the opposite - I love talking to people and socializing.

I mean you're not going to make a best friend instantly. That just happens with time.

Common interst groups. You arrive sharing something and the process has already started. It still takes time if you are different. But it works
