People don't want to be friends anymore?

The people that I know from work that I'm trying to befriend are acting flaky.

This one guy who enjoyed my company and was always talking about getting a coffee together asked me a favor but I could not go into it (for personal reasons) and so I politely said no. Then I asked him afterwards if he would like to go for a coffee and he said "I'll let you know". Weeks later, he comes with the message that he forgot, asks me how it's going and doesn't even reschedule the coffee.

The second guy goes out as well, and I hinted at him if he would like to go with me together to an event where we could get to know new tech. Instead of suggesting to meet up with me to go to such an event, he redirects me that there is the possibility of me going to the event myself.

What is this, people? Do I lack social skills or are these people flaky?

sorry man, making friends is awkward at my age of fifty right now....so weird ....but i find i just have to be persistant and bug people till I am "accepted" into their lives. The thing is to not appear needy and just shrug off rejection and come back cool and collected with other options. Definately stay cool. You got this
No idea, but wow.

I have about three friends.

All three are flaky.

In the modern world, people don’t commit anymore nor do they care for loyalty
@QueenofZaun Yes indeed.
