anyone with decades old metal galvanized water supply lines...REPLACE SOON AS POSSIBLE!!

you will be sooooo glad you do. ive spent my entire life in homes with galvanized plumbing until this week. had to hire an extra pair of hands to help with this major project. goodbye itchy skin and scalp, musty housed smell...hello soft hair, house now smells fresh crisp and clean, and the laundry OMG!!! WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!! i doubt anyone can afford all copper today, we installed PEX. should have done this years ago.

I was lucky enough to buy a house with all copper... something I wasn't even thinking of or aware of at the time. It's good you replaced. As bad as plastic is, it's still better than constant exposure to rust etc.

My next house will be all copper also, non-negotiable.

Microplastics and nanoplastics come from plastic pipes. This plastic causes inflammation that cause biological issues. Nanoplastics which can cross the blood-brain barrier. These particles can trigger and cause all sorts of issues over time.

I'll avoid plastics like Pex, pvc, etc.

Fortunately, my house has copper (built in 80's). I replace with copper or brass in the drinking related pipes when needed - eg a long deep freeze busted pipe on an outside wall (ran pipe deeper inside and installed a cutoff inside to keep water from that faucet in winter).

Nano/micro plastics are being seen as a major cause of inflammations throughout the body, so we need better materials.

Reverse osmosis for cooking and drinking can remove much of it.

I replaced mine with all copper 40 years ago, including a one inch main line into the house. I did all the digging, routing, soldering, laundry hook up, hot water tank, and fixture work myself.

PEX seems to be the de-facto standard. I have old galvanized pipes, and replacement is on the list, but there are a lot of things on the list ahead of that.
