@tenente Sorry, but I find the 51st stuff to be hilarious... well, not if the people are taking it seriously... but if you stop and think about it, there is about a 0% chance that the Republican party let's the liberal areas like Puerto Rico become a state, much less somewhere as populated as Canada...

They want more votes and control, and adding liberal areas would give them less control...

So I almost wanted to see Canada call Trump's bluff, and be like, alright, let us become your 51st state then...

Because it's a bluff, and I honestly don't know if Trump knows that or not... but it might be Trump and the Democrats vs the Republicans and I just find that idea hilarious and I'm not sure who would win...

I assume the Republicans, as there is no way they're letting Canada in, as the Democrats would have power for at least the next decade, if not much longer.

@sstronaut Perhaps it's not a known fact over there, but pre-2014 both Russians and Ukrainian used to joke about a Russian invasion of Ukraine, until it happened and it was no longer a joke.

Even in 2021/early-2022 everyone and their mothers (including iirc. Zelensky himself) were saying that Moscow was bluffing, until it was not.

It's not necessarily a bluff when you have deranged leaders at the helm.

@Elessar Well, I don't believe there is any talk of invading Canada... but just offering for them to join the US, which I think both side knew there was 0% chance of.

@sstronaut And when they'll say "No" they'll join the other two, so practically it makes no difference. And of all leaders I very much doubt Trump cares about consent, considering what he's been convicted for...

@sstronaut It's absolutely deliberate, there's 2024 videos about Project 2025 and/or Curtis Yarvin's "vision" that expressly state they'll ignore the courts, so unfortunately it's all part of some plan
