Have you ever felt like your friend is ashamed of you?

Like they only talk to you in private and you feel like they don't want other people to know that you're friends with them?

I experienced that as a child, because a lot of the other kids weren’t allowed to play with me (by their parents). A surprising number liked me anyway, but they risked getting in trouble if someone told on them. 🙁
