The smell of a dead person would kill my appetite, so I'll go with alive as well. The talking is probably annoying but that's what ball gags are for and that way I don't have to share the food either.

Dead people won't say "oh no I don't want to order dessert, I'll just have some of yours" and then eat like 80% of it.
