Neighbour wants to borrow my carpet washer.

So my neighbour was complaining and saying that she borrowed one from someone else and that it was broken, there was a black mark on her floor and her husband was due back from travelling.

Out of the kindness of my heart I let my neighbour borrow my carpet washer before my holiday, Xmas 2023.

I told her I was going away from 15th of December and would like to have it back before then as I was off work and wanted to freshen it up before Xmas.

I gave it to her Thursday 7th of December..
She didn't text me until the 16th claiming that she was sick and she kept it longer as she wanted to wash the carpet in her bedroom too. That wasn't discussed.
As I was abroad I didn't respond.
When I got back the 23rd she didn't drop it off she waited until the 27th to give it to me. (partly because I changed plans to actually go to my mums as my floor wasn't clean).

She said she would pay me but I said not to, i also discovered that she had also used more than half of the new bottle of solution.

I decided from then should she ask me again, it would be a no.

She's texted and now called me and doesn't seem to get the message.

I'm not bothering to respond because as I mentioned to aligned friend over the time she's lived there I keep saving her.

She nearly burnt her flat down I called the fire brigade.

She lost her key I lent her my fob.

When he little boy ran off I brought him back to her, she didn't even noticed that he had left her home.

He's 2 or now 3...
Some people are all take and no give. Can’t blame you for wanting to distance yourself. Are you likely to run into her? Could be awkward.

@OlderSometimesWiser she lives below me and I pass her door on the way out. Won't be awkward for me. Coz I'll just keep it moving.
It pisses me off that she's not the first neighbour that has asked for favours. Another it was money and then tried to tap me again less than 2 days after giving me the money she borrowed back so I told her straight, I'm not able to help you. And shut my door in her face.

I've lived here as a single person for 13 years why can I manage myself and they can't.
Pisses me off.
I have helped her enough. She needs to ask her husband to buy her one of her own

@Mellowgirl They used to rent them at the grocery stores, here in the USA. You could rent one for the day, and buy the shampoo.

@4meAndyou I think there are places you can do that too. But she'd probably have to pay more than the £25 she was offering me. It's funny because on Monday morning another neighbour caught me in the stair well as I was about to walk the dog washing for £20. I was so angry I told her straigh "no, I'm not a bank this is ridiculous, why have I become the person to tap for life assistance! " instead of apologising she spent her time whining and sighing saying "what is she going to do now!"

I may come across cold but this is too much.
It seems people will take a mile when you give them an inch. It is good you stood your ground and didn't become a doormat for her. She needs a taste of mondo reality
