It was and it wasn't.
In terms of race equality and women's rights, while it was better than previous generations, it was NOT great.
I was born roughly seven years after the war. I grew up in a peaceful rural place and it was great for me and our family.
Had I been born to an African American family, I think life would have been different - maybe far different.
