Yes, lots of sacrifice, it was a terrible time in history. Different generation. Lucky to have those people.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky they're the generation that caused it to become so terrible in the first place dude
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst the ordinary people living through the depression and the war were surviving. They gave up a lot and came through it. It was a different time in the world and history. Sweden declared itself neutral..
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky so????? What i said still applies
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky saying that later generations should be thankful for earlier generations solving the problems themself caused is straight up gaslighting 🐥
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst Not really. You're talking about gov and policies, international relations. I'm talking about the people who went to war to fight, had to go to war, over half were young adults drafted, and lived through the depression in the US. The greatest generation refers to the people who faught in the war, in the US.
It does matter that Sweden was "neutral", they never want to stand up for anything lol
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst nobody is saying they need to be bowing down to anyone, but some understanding and respect is warranted.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky its never just a government. If the governments decisions werent supported by the citizens it would be toppled. 🤣
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst omg ffs all I'm saying is have some compassion and respect for the people who went through hard times because of whatever was going on.
That's not necessarily true here. We elect them out if we don't like them.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky Sure we can have compassion but you also said that they were the greatest generation.............
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst I think they were in the sense of what we know they went through in history. I don't particularly feel that close to the WWII generation but I know the next generation does. To them, they were people who took on a lot and helped end the war. I don't discount that. In the context they're talking about, they fit the title. Doesn't mean there weren't other important generations. I'm not sure if there are now, I don't see it.
I guess I understand why they're saying that. Tom Brokaw did a whole project on what he termed the greatest generation. It was impressive.
A lot better than what people do now.. online, working behind a computer at home, no skill sets.. On and on
There has never been a military operation remotely approaching the scale and the complexity of D-Day. It involved 176,000 troops, more than 12,000 airplanes, almost 10,000 ships, boats, landing craft, frigates, sloops, and other special combat vessels--all involved in a surprise attack on the heavily fortified north coast of France, to secure a beachhead in the heart of enemy-held territory so that the march to Germany and victory could begin. It was daring, risky, confusing, bloody, and ultimately glorious [p.25]

@HannahSky You're stereo-typing. The world is behind the computer now, it's literally what's running the world. Of course important people will be working behind the computer at home. That takes skills. You're talking to a programmer 😧
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst I knew you'd be sensitive about that 😂 I mean the losers at home doing nothing. And the people refusing to go back to the office lol
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst but that, isn't like people going to war, it's not the same mentality.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky Of course it isn't, and it shouldn't be. People shouldn't be going to war.
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst it's a life reality though. It's never going to stop.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky God will stop it
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst oh yeah, hasn't yet. There's always a war going on somewhere. People stop wars. That's how Hitler was stopped. People fighting against him.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky Hitler belonged to the same generation 🤣
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst Hitler started the problem. They're not calling him part of the greatest generation. The men and women who faught against the Germans were the greatest generation for what they did. Holy gdd you have to look at the big picture. Your generation is definitely not the greatest generation, sorry to say.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky You're limiting the generation down to what you feel like is the generation, not what truly is the generation. You're delusional
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst I'm talking about what's considered the greatest generation, which is a certain population. It's the people who served in the war.
I'm not the one who coined the phrase, but it is not about everyone. It's those who served to fight against the ones killing Jewish people, because they thought they weren't a part of a superior race. You're generalizing the phrase to everyone who lived during the time and that's not how the phrase is used or meant. It's a recognition of those who went through WWII, on the US side.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@HannahSky Oh geeze, I guess it's a stupid nonsensical phrase that you continue to use, who could have known 🤔
HannahSky · F
@MartinTheFirst Not my phrase and it was specifically coined by a military general or some high rank, when he was talking about the troops. Later it became popular when a retired news anchor Tom Brokaw wrote a book in the 90s and interviewed WWII vets. It's actually a good book.
Every generation is known by a name.

@HannahSky
It's a recognition of those who went through WWII, on the US side.
The 'US side' ? 😂 🤣
HannahSky · F
@Really I'm explaining to him, because he thinks it was for the entire generation, and obviously it was not. He said Hitler was in the generation.. No, it doesn't include that side 🙄
Thanks for the quote, but you're not a part of the conversation.
