I really want to make friends
I want to feel like I belong and have place in a group. Especially with men. Its so unfamiliar to me that a man will *just* want to be my friend. No strings attached

The problem with men is that if you are our friend that means we know we can get along with you and that familiarity increases the potential we see in someone else as a long term partner. Specific to you, you are cute as well which hits both long term and short term partner criteria.
Not all men, and many of us are willing to be friends once it's been made clear the other option isn't on the table. Most of us don't mean to be pests, but dating can be intimidating and from our perspectives friends are easier to approach than strangers.
Not making an excuse of it, though. I also understand that women can sometimes feel like they are pursued non-stop and that gets tiring and sometimes you just want friends that you can relax around without worrying they are going to try to chase you.
