What does this mean?

leave social media for a more "rural", under-the-radar, life (such some of those people who were our schoolmates, and we don't find traces of them on social media now).

Context is vague. So it's hard to tell.

Yet I do understand the part about
we don't find traces of them on social media now
I have searched for many on other sites, and only found one. And not exactly someone I knew very well.

Actually she recognized me on a junior high Facebook page. That was years ago. I no longer have a FB account. So even if she wanted to contact me it's no longer possible. This obscure site is the only site I'm on.

@DeWayfarer so wait you think they have social media but they don’t use it/ post that much

@Vincent1235 or they do have a page and just are not active.

Found another, privately message them even, yet no activity had occurred for years.

If you don't even login or forgot your password or any such case, you're not going to contact others no matter what the circumstances are.
