On those charity appeal ads, why is it always mega rich people telling me I have to give up £8 a month for wells to be dug in Africa?

After you moneybags!

Well they do give money to charity, many rich people do but it's purely for tax and money laundering purposes.

@Allelse That may be true of some but you can't accuse them all of being criminals, especially with no evidence to present.

@ArishMell A billionaire got you in his pocket has he?!?!?!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Allelse Oh no! Definitely not! :-)

Some of my friends are a lot wealthier than me but none have assets in the 10^6, let alone 10^12, £££ league!

Half a million maybe, largely by house values that have increased by percentage rates over many years; but they have worked hard for their ways of life by gaining degrees and following highly-salaried careers.

I expect there are people who would consider even my very modest living - OHAC as the lonely-hearts ads used to say - somehow "rich"; perhaps even "privileged", whatever that means.

I do not though, throw about wild accusations I cannot substantiate, but might be based on mere prejudice or jealousy, especially about people I do not even know. If someone has acted criminally, such as by tax evasion he or she should be brought to account in the proper way. If not though, so what?

@ArishMell So they pay you off?
