Why do you have to smell wine before drinking it?

Wine culture is something I've never got into. I just threw out some wine glasses that remind me of toxic dating fails.

Wine that is "off" has a distinct unpleasant smell..Or worse. no smell at all..Its a warning..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I guess like milk then? I don't drink that either just fyi.

What I don't understand about wine is what makes it 'pleasant'. The smell of wine in general is a turn-off (same with milk).
