Redbreast 12 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Having only had Jameson's, Bushmill's, John Powers, and Connemara (an awful "peated" Irish whiskey), I had concluded that compared to scotch, the best you could say is that what Irish whiskey gives up in character, it makes up for in inoffensive drinkability. But after trying this one, I've changed my mind. Redbreast explodes with fruit flavors, raisins, nuts, and other complexities that are beyond my ability to describe, with a finish that lasts for several minutes. And at only 80 proof, it's an accomplishment. They don't give this stuff away but it's worth the expense.
It's not clear if you have you tried the Bushmills single malts - the 10 and 12 year-olds? An Irish friend of mine, back in the 1970s, used to swear by Jameson's Crested 10, now relaunched as just Crested.
