Do you think society will evolve to a Vegan lifestyle? [I am Vegan]

I think it would be great if we did.

Too much of one thing, is bad for you apparently. Like drinks. I love to drink soda. But, when you start having weird surging pain where your kidney is on your left side, you panic, and begin to drink lots, and lots of water.

Same with carrots, eat too many your skin can turn orangish or something I've read. Too many beets, too much zinc, too much iron, too much vitamin C, too much meat, too much milk, too much coffee, too much sugar, etc. etc. etc.

Supposedly however, we can't get enough water, and a majority of the population in the US is dehydrated. But I do think that to get rid of meat entirely, and only eat vegetables, it's too much. Our bodies need that variety. There are people who don't smoke, don't eat meat, don't drink who've died in their 30's, perfectly healthy.

I'm no doctor, so I will only give my personal opinion, which is, I think we all as human beings, need to eat an even balance of food, and not too much of one thing.

I believe there are properties in meat and in vegetables that help our bodies. And when you remove one of those things, our bodies go wacky on us.

@twiigss Skin turning orange from eating a lot of carrots is not unhealthy. It’s just storage of beta carotene in the body which will be turned into Vitamin A when the body needs it.

@cherokeepatti Oh ok. Well most of these articles online always come across as if the world is ending in 10 seconds lol.

@twiigss I read a book about someone in Alaska who loved carrots, pumpkin, and orange squash. He ate a large amount of all of them probably even carrot juice. He went to the doctor about the end of winter (had no tan at all) and his doctor noticed his skin was orange. His wife apparently didn’t know because it came on him gradually and his tan had faded and it was more noticeable to others. I tried to do that to my skin but apparently I would have had to eat orange veggies like a hippo for it to happen.

@cherokeepatti I can believe that. I watched a short docustory on this guy whose doctor told him he needed more iron, so he hoarded all these iron gummies, ate them, had health issues, well at the end of the story he told the doctor the truth, they were like, dude! you can't be doing that! You will seriously cause harm to yourself in the long run. Yea it was wild.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss Iron can build up and that is dangerous. They’ve linked an excess of iron with excess cancer.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Oh wow, I didn't know that. Apparently his copper got low, and he was having all these problems that doctors couldn't figure out why. And when he got home from the hospital and he was all fixed up, he went back on that gummy binge again with a different thing.

@twiigss gummy vitamins can be tempting for children to over use. I didn’t know adults did that though. Minerals need to be balanced. Too much of one thing can block the absorption of another.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Yep. And some adults hear one thing from the doctor, and they might go a little overboard with what was said, and they misinterpret it as something else. That's what happened to that guy.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@twiigss oh please, I have been vegan for over eight years and am healthier now than I have ever been in my life. I have been tested and have the health rating of a 23 year old.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Adrift More meat for the rest of us then. Glad it worked out for you.
twiigss · M
@Adrift I'm only saying what I've read and have heard throughout my years from what is reported in the news. Like you watch TV and you hear a report how a 32 year old died, unknown causes, didn't smoke, didn't drink, didn't eat meat etc., but these people were vegans in their mid teen years also. I'm just always shocked to hear something like that because one would think, vegetables, no smoke, no alcohol, means they are healthy, but not always I guess.

And you say you're vegan for the last 8 years. Well you weren't in your mid teens when you were vegan were you? Maybe that makes a difference?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss I have read that Vegans have the highest rate of cancer compared to other dietary classes of people in the USA.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Yes, I have heard that same thing as well. Not sure how true it is, but it's what I've heard. And I've always believed that we need a balanced diet, not too much of any one thing.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss excess soy builds up too much estrogen and that may be the reason.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Ahhhhh. And that comes down to, too much of one thing. Then I guess you look at, well what foods contain soy? But I would look at it like, hmm, maybe I should eat other types of food like most people do.

If I drink too much soda, after maybe a week or two, I'll start getting this real weird stabbing pain in my lower left flank, probably where a kidney is. Well, then I just start drinking water for weeks on end, and pain goes away within an hour or so.

I try to vary what I drink. Not too much soda, but I do drink more water nowadays.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss soy and some other natural things that may be good for some are not good for others due to increase of estrogen. Lavender oil, tea tree oil, red clover, hops (which is in beer and some herbal teas) and soy products all increase estrogen. Lavender is considered so potent for that there are warnings for parents to keep any lavender-scented items away from them such as bath soap and oil extracts because they can develop breasts before they become a teenager.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Oh wow! I never heard that before. And people at my work are like, oh yea lavender for relaxing.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss yes it does relax you but like a member here said...she would massage her husband’s back and use lavender oil to do it and then he became an emotional mess afterwards and it happened every time and she couldn’t figure out why till I told her about lavender increasing estrogen. I believe that could also be a reason so many beer drunks sit around and cry about their problems when they drink, they get a fat belly because of the estrogen increase and then get emotional, which is hard for anyone to deal with. Some of the beer brands have MSG added to it to make them increase their appetite for their brand and they may consume dozens of them due to that.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti I guess I haven't been around lavender like that before then. Or maybe ever come to think of it. I'm not even sure I've had lavender tea. Green tea with honey I'll drink which is good, once in a while. Or Earl Grey tea.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss they make another variety of Earl Grey with lavender in it, they call it Lady Grey...Twinings brand. I want to try it, got a free sample, but kind of afraid to. It doesn’t take much tea tree product (one use) or lavender to cause an increase.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Wow, wasn't aware of that. Yea, the Twinings brand is the kind I get too. We have a Keurig so I usually get the pods for the Keurig. I've had the tea bags as well, but love the simplicity and speed of instant tea with Keurig.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss they are putting tea tree oil in dental hygiene products....mouth wash, toothpaste and floss....because it helps kill germs. But yikes, I think brushing your teeth with it is enough to increase estrogen because it can absorb in your mouth.
twiigss · M
@cherokeepatti Yea, that can't be good.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@twiigss there should be some warning on products but there aren’t....many people do a little research but I didn’t know about these products increasing estrogen levels until a few years ago after I dropped a bottle of tea tree oil and cleaned it up with a paper towel and my bare hands and then started having hot flashes and night sweats. I had to stop drinking soy milk, using lavender oil and using tea tree oil. I did use some tea tree facial wash I had a couple years later and started having the same symptoms again.

"bath soap and oil extracts because they can develop breasts before they become a teenager."

Like Richard Speck. Worked out for him
