Not gonna lie, sometimes I get home in the wee small hours, make myself a cup of tea and put together an 'Eaton Mess' before bed.
For those of you that are going....'Huh?' and scratching your head....here's an 'Eaton Mess'
Essentially, it's some sliced strawberries (plus other berries, if you have them), broken up meringue nests and whipped cream, folded together, put in some sort of bowl with some slices of strawberries on top.
Delish.
It was concocted at Eaton College, back in 1893, as a pudding between Eaton and Harrow (districts of London) at a Cricket Match. Apparently, the strawberry, meringue and cream pudding fell onto the floor and some enterprising person just scooped up what could be salvaged and put into individual dishes.
How cool is that?
Anyways, it hits the spot for me. Just takes a few minutes to make. Less to eat!
I do have a sweet tooth but I would not eat sweets just before going to bed simply because the sugar would keep me awake. That burst of energy in the middle of the night would probably keep me up for hours.
Now, that Eaton thingie looks delicious, mind you and I would probably try it during daytime. Good for you if you can still sleep after eating that. Bon appétit 🍰
@Stephie Years of training, Stephie! It is delish and, well, when you've had a busy night it's good to pop in some calories before bed! Carb coma? Probably!
