@meggie I forgot about that! Back in about the early-1960s there was a recipe in a women's magazine for a dip that consisted of a package of French onion soup and a container of sour cream. My mother made it but I don't recall ever having French onion soup.

@hunkalove yes. My grandma used to make a yummy potato dish with it amd cream and grated cheese. The aussies use it to make spricot chicken too.
