I don’t feel comfortable wearing sleeveless tops or above knee skirt/dress at work - Am I being uptight and it is totally okay to wear it?

Or are there other women here who feel the same?

And the weird thing is that I never feel it looks wrong when I see other woman wearing that in the workplace (some go to extreme and it is inappropriate) but generally speaking i only feel it looks wrong/ not workplace appropriate, if it is me wearing it.

I recognize i come from a conservative culture and it doesn’t matter that I learned to be free etc but i wonder what others think.

I don’t think you’re being uptight. If sleeveless tops or above the knee skirts/dresses make you uncomfortable at work, you don’t have to wear them, being “free” doesn’t mean you have to dress in a way that doesn’t feel like you. At the same time, it sounds like you’re not judging other women for wearing them, which is a healthy distinction. Workplace appropriateness depends partly on the environment and dress code, but your own comfort matters too. It may simply be the result of your upbringing and the standards you apply more strictly to yourself. You can gradually experiment if you want, but there’s no obligation to change.

I think both look fine at work. So long as their are no miniskirts involved.
Sleeveless tops are no problem, and at your age, you can go for any type of skirt.
Not uptight.
Wear what you want.

Where whatever you enjoy! *imagines potato in a short skirt*
I wear knee-length dresses and skirts to work all the time. I rarely go sleeveless, but short sleeves, and I do get compliments. It sounds like just a standard you apply only to yourself. There's a difference between not feeling comfortable wearing it to work, and something being inappropriate for work. You don't have to force yourself into clothes you dislike just to prove something.

An avg summer here and you'd join me in wanting to start a political movement demanding the right to go to work in swimwear and have a an A/C vent over your head all the time

Wear what you feel comfortable with -- there is no shame in being classy.

You live in the west now. Let your coworkers be your guidance for work clothes. They know what is appropriate and acceptable for your workplace. You'll look great in whatever you decide to wear.

What kind of work do you do? That makes a difference. Otherwise, be comfortable with what you wear. The biggest one to please is yourself.

Go with what makes you feel comfortable.

Tasteful shorter skirts and dresses and sleeveless tops are always okay - if the environment accepts them as being basically a nothignburger.

Wear what you are comfortable in, but go ahead and push your own boundaries - you won't go too far, and the little bit you do push, will be good for you.
There was what was considered "appropriate office attire" and I tended to err on the side of caution. I don’t think it’s being uptight to dress modestly on the job.
As long as it feels good to you and is appropriate

With a name like yours, a burlap sack probably feels good

The clothing we wear is a reflection on our mood at the time. Yes, companies have dress codes that are meant to be followed, but with that in mind, wear what makes you comfortable!

It doesn't matter what other women feel about it or how they think. Other women are not you and you are not them. They cannot speak for you and you cannot speak for them. Get your head out of everyone else's closet and wear what suits your cultural upbringing and be done with it, but don't ever judge another woman for what SHE chooses to wear to work.
