Potato career

Tomorrow I have a type of an informal interview for a job that I REALLY WANT!

I can't call it a coffee chat, because the meeting is specifically set up to discuss a job opportunity that someone on their team referred me for, but it is also not a formal interview. Because I did not apply! I think the job is not even posted yet, and I knew about it from that person, and the invitation says meet and greet and discuss that opportunity.

So it is somewhere in between.

I don't have perfect experience for this job but I do have some transferrable skills and also the reputation within my employer, as the job is at my employer, so I would be making an internal move, if it works out.

Not raising my hopes high, because I really just lack the experience 🥔🤷🏻‍♀I have always been an auditor, and I really like being an auditor, I just naturally do well at it.. I am an observer, analytical, detailed, and I always, always have follow up questions when people tell me stories (people always tell me I ask good questions!).. I think I have the natural traits of an auditor although I never planned it, but it is why I stuck with it all these years... But that means too that I have always been an outsider my entire career. I have always played the role of the reviewer/challenger but not the doer - Which is somewhat necessary, as you need to be independent and to give a fresh untainted perspective to the people who are deeply involved in execution.

I have been okay with that and never thought about making a shift, or I sometimes thought about it, but been hesitant or meh. Especially when I was immigrating to Canada, I remember I thought this was my chance if I ever wanted to make a career change, because I was under the impression that I will have to start from scratch anyway (I was wrong or the internet was wrong). But I also thought I would take any job I am given. So I applied for many things, but something inside me was resisting that change. I also remember going through two interviews for a job I was interested in, but when I was invited to the third, I simply declined and took my current job over it, which I think was a wise choice, especially, that I did not like the culture and the vibes I felt in those interviews for that other employer, and when I researched their reviews, my feelings were confirmed.

Anyhow... this was my long way to say, I was really never excited about a career change.. Recently though, I have been thinking about it, and I think the reason is because I have been interacting with many fellow auditors who made such changes, and been recognizing its value... but still very selective about a change, if it were to happen.

This one though, not hesitant one bit! First time I feel excited about something that is not audit. Also, for some reason, first time I have full confidence that I would be able to easily hack it and excel at it, if I get it, despite the lack of experience, but then I have to make the other person believe it too LOL.

This job would be a real good investment in my skills and experience and would really make my resume look very good and make me on demand in an AI driven world... But also, I think I would enjoy being challenged and learning a new way of work, thinking, perspectives, and so on .. So, I am also excited about it itself.

The function is new, growing and they have a lot coming their way. Their mandate is huge and critical... and this is exactly what makes me tick! I JUST LOVE working in such environment.. I love complexity, problem solving and fast paced environment.. I need my brain to be stimulated with complexity, challenges and growth in my skills and experience, or I just get incredibly demotivated and disengaged.. I am either all in or all out (I think the latter is an ADHD thing)...

As I am expecting another interview (probably the final interview) next week outside my employer for an audit job.. That one is just the ordinary, but is still a good opportunity that I would take, if offered, and if this one fails..

Curious if I will land somewhere else by the end of this year... Or stay where I am... but I am surely working towards MOVING ON despite the outcome of these two opportunities, and whether it is favourable or not.

Its sounds like this meeting is to check your attitude and whether your face will fit in this group.. Experience is something you can learn and the easiest part of the job.. So your attitude should be on show this time out, That way you set the benchmark others have to beat.
Of course, I dont have all the facts. But from what I can tell, you got this..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I agree! From what I heard about the hiring manager, she is looking for attitude first, which I appreciate..

I hope you get it, i am sure you will. We had auditors at work a few times a year. I would dread the questions. So i would hide😅. All the best for your interviews

@M00ed I don’t blame you, who would like auditors 🥔🤷🏽‍♀ if I schedule a meeting with a client on a Friday, I usually start the meeting with: Sorry you have to meet with me on a Friday lol

The job does sound perfect for you. Don't worry about not having every skillset they want as most people will train a person they like rather than chance someone who they don't know. The fact that they are doing something different just to talk to you seems like a very good sign to me.

@ineedadrink O feel hopeful and good for some reason.. I really don’t know why.. I am calm and confident and killing myself with preparation or even thinking about it.. maybe this is what they call, potato maturity? Idk 🥔🤷🏽‍♀
