Is it just me who is not impressed by Messi and don’t even like him the least?

Now I admit I know absolutely nothing about football which could be why I can’t recognize his “extraordinary talents”

But.. like.. the way people are talking about him.. I mean:. Come on.. he did not discover gravity.. it is not like if it were not for him, we would all be flying in the air right now!! *potato can’t distinguish discoveries from inventions 🥔🥴🥔🥹* but I still made a valid point, there are so many talented players.. i don’t see him extraordinarily different! Is he? And I just fail to see it because i don’t understand football?

...we in vancouver don't much respect him for what he did a couple of years ago. miami was scheduled to play here. so all the messi fans including little kids bought tickets to the game months in advance. normally a whitecaps game would draw about 25k average. but for that match 50k+ seats were sold. basically selling out. then i think a week before the match it was announced he wasn't going to make the 6hr trip from miami to vancouver....one reason was because they had a mid week game also and he didn't want to get "tired" ...when that much money spent by his fans in my province travelling throughout the province and spending thousands to come see him...ie ferry, hotel etc...that was a bs move by him and the miami organization...especially since the schedule was known months before, but just a short time before the match he baled...absolute bs....ok that was my rant....he's a phenomenal player though
The real Argentina v England game is on Saturday…Rugby😀

The way he plays the game has changed over the years. In fact, that’s really the reason he’s considered one of the best.
Like him or not, he is talented. No denying that. He was instrumental in both goals against England
getting paid millions to kick a ball......... not a bad gig. i should have practiced way more. LOL

im not really a big soccer fan. but, from watching the highlights, he appeared to be better a few years ago. skills do deteriorate with age, but, it does help when a player is surrounded by other great players. which is definitely the case the past four years.

For some people, sports stars are gods. The reality is that they are merely people who happen to be successful and/or skilled at their chosen sport. It is hard to conceive how and why these are treated like gods, and earn prodigious amounts of money, but there you are. Other entertainers, such as actors, are treated the same way. Perhaps some people need a focus for their admiration and/or adoration.

It seems like a case of nostalgia and confirmation bias to me. I've never followed him, but from what I understand he used to genuinely be far better than almost any other football player. He lost it when the effects of aging started to show, but people still remember him from his glory days and expect to see that for as long as he's on the field, and therefore only remember the occasional lucky kick that matches that expectation.

Well you just said you don't know anything about football lol.

He's not in his prime any more and still is a beast.
I never cared for Messi much but you can't deny his talent.
