So if you were to provide performance assessment and you know a person is a low performer, would you be kind and give good feedback or be fair

To everyone else who perform better and give an honest bad feedback?

I always gave honest feedback and worked with the low performer to see what we could do to help them improve. I don't remember ever having anyone who failed to do better on the next performance review.
