Is it appropriate to pass an ecard through the team to pass our condolences to someone who lost a family member?

I found it weird, like who does this in death!! It is not a happy occasion. Or is this a normal thing?

I also thought, why spread the news, maybe she doesn’t want people to know! When I lost my mother, I didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want to keep talking about it.

Sending out an ecard for such a thing seems like one of those things corporate management types would do feeling and wanting to acknowledge it. While being such disconnected and emotionally stunted weirdos they feel this solves some "potential problems" and also not getting in the way of any productivity or cutting into mind numbing meeting dialogue.
