Here's a helpful starter:
12 points to a pica
6 picas or three barleycorns to an inch
12 inches to a foot
3 feet to a yard
2 yards to a fathom
110 fathoms to a furlong
10 furlongs to a Kentucky Derby
If you need volume measurements, you'll need to understand gallons. There's the dry gallon AKA corn gallon. There's the wine gallon and the ale gallon. And of course Darth Vader's favorite - the imperial gallon!

@ElwoodBlues And then there’s weight. My favorite is the jelly bean. For example, I weigh 96,615 jelly beans, rounded off.

@ElwoodBlues And it's tricky reading speed limit signs when they're in fpf -- furlongs per fortnight!
