Potato vegan Eid ka'ak ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ˜š It is Kafer Ka'ak. If you are a devout Muslim celebrating Eid, this Ka'ak can get you in trouble ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅด

I call this a success on so many levels;

1) i didnโ€™t make a huge amount as I always unintentionally make. Somehow the amount of dough matched the filling, you have no idea how satisfying this feeling is! I have no leftovers!!
2) Of all the videos I watched, everyone kept emphasizing on ways to keep the shape after it is baked as if it was a miracle. I ignored all advice, and my method was to just press hard and to keep banging on the cake mold so loudly until my neighbors almost called the police, so that I can get the piece out, worked out just fine ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ
3) I used plant based ghee (apparently available in major supermarkets here and it was the usual Arabic brand too I've used my entire life, looks like westerners don't ever use ghee? No other brands?) But that completely messed up the measures I was given as everyone on YouTube was using animal based ghee.๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ The dough looked disgusting at some point, i thought it would never happen lol

And lastly, I re-learned a life lesson I already knew, which is that practice makes perfect. In every aspect. Like the first row of cookies I made differed tremendously from the last row and I only made like 3 rows lol But by the third row, I had already realised I was using too much dough which was ruining the shape and of course later the taste when it is baked because it won't be as light. I felt bad, because the difference was so obvious, but all in all, not too shabby for potato first attempt with vegan ingredients too! ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ˜š

Is it possible that I had these in Egypt, or are they from elsewhere? I remember some buttery biscuits that I got severely addicted to, and iirc they looked a lot like those ๐Ÿฅฒ

@Elessar Oh yea definitely! Egyptians make them, but also other Arab countries have similar recipes. Is this how you developed your first belly? ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅฐ When were you in Egypt?

@BittersweetPotato Hell yeah then these were the tรฌts, I ate far more that I'll ever want to admit ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Possibly, but I used to swim a lot too so I've compensated for sure, it would've been a crime going there without seeing extensively the Red Sea ๐Ÿฅฒ

@Elessar I feel so jealous! I am half Egyptian and haven't even been to Egypt as an adult but I will! And when I do, I will come to yoi for advice on places to visit ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

@BittersweetPotato It was a lot of time ago, I was like 14 last time, and I wish I saw more, especially the historical sites ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Then for one reason or another (or actually several causes accumulating) my family had stopped traveling. One day I'll be back ๐Ÿ˜Œ
