Is it wrong to think twice about dating somebody working a minimum wage job?

I don't think I could be with someone who works the counter at Pizza Hut or makes sandwiches and Subway. Now that's not saying they are not worthwhile people but in my life I have been pushed to always go for more and to climb and date higher. There was this time I was dating a guy who was a mechanic back in my early 20s and I can just remember my mother making comments about him. "So when is he going back to school?" She would point out other guys and say to me he is studying to be a lawyer or his parents own this you should play the field more. This was a nudge to date someone more "like us" so to speak.

I think it more depends on if they have higher aspirations that they're working toward, or if their job makes decent money/they're good at their job/they love their job.

A mechanic makes good money and it's a valuable trade skill. Usually they love their job and are skilled in what they do due to years of practice. Makes them as important as a lawyer in my book.

Someone who's been working in Burger king for the last 7 years and isn't trying to improve their life or get a better job? Not worth it.

@ForeverGrowingOld That is true if they are going to be at Burger King the rest of their lives without trying to at least make it into management that is a huge no for me. If someone is just there to gain job experience or to pay for school that's alright. Things didn't work out between the mechanic and I anyway.
