Oh how much I love pasta

but I hate it too. It is my kryptonite. It is a food I crave when I am sad or stressed, and once I get started eating it, I can't seem to stop until it is gone. It sabotages every diet I am ever on, but it soothes my frazzled nerves every time I need it. 😔

I have MTHFR mutations, so my body cannot utilize folic acid unless it is methylfolate. So, when I eat pasta that is enriched with folic acid, it builds up in my body. This isn't good.😔

I know pasta is not good for me, and I hope someday, I will learn to leave it alone forever. 👍

Oh Pasta, how I hate to love you...💔

Can you make your own pasta from scratch or is the flour also enriched with folic acid?

@cherokeepatti No, I can make my own pasta, and if I use organic flour, I don't have any trouble or any cravings. That is what I am going to try to do in the future. The difference is that instead of getting the feelings of calm or lifting of depression, I just get full. For some reason, without the added vitamins and minerals (which make me ill), it doesn't increase the serotonin in my brain. Some people get the same lift in mood and calm feeling from ice cream and things like this. This is what makes store-bought pasta addicting to me. However, it is time for me to get this addiction put behind me and be a grown-up. My health demands it, and I have to start taking it seriously. Thank you so much for your comment. It was a very wise comment, and I really do appreciate it.🙂

@Journaling4Me You can take a methylfolate supplement every day though. And have your homemade pasta along with it.

@cherokeepatti That's an awesome idea, and that just might work. Thank you so much. I think I will give that a try.🙂

@Journaling4Me My oncologist told me to take folic acid due to being so anemic from colon cancer. Makes a huge difference. I wasn’t able to eat very much then and wasn’t getting enough veggies.

@cherokeepatti I really hope you're ok now? My daughter and my husband had very bad bouts of diverticulitis last year. My daughter had a tumor in her colon, and they didn't catch it in our small town before she ended up with perforations. When they flew her to a larger hosptial they found out what had happened. She fought for her life for 5 weeks. They removed the section where the tumor was, and it was not cancerous, but it gave us such a scare. My husband's father died from colon cancer at 65. I really do hope you are doing better..🤗

@Journaling4Me I had 2 different types of cancer at the same time in 2023 (colon and adrenal) and was precancerous for endometrial cancer. Had my adrenal tumor removed (then got in a car wreck one week later that totaled both cars while we were driving to the first appointment with my chemo onocologist) had 12 rounds of chemo, 6 rounds of chemo with 6 weeks of radiation, 4 surgeries on the same day. And 4 blood transfusions during that time. Thought they got it all but apparently not. Anyway I feel a whole lot better than I did during that first couple of years, haven’t lost any weight this time and can do a whole lot more than before too. I can cook, shop, do chores and drive myself around. Try to avoid crowded areas and getting too tired (shopped nearly 4 hours this afternoon, that is my limit), and get plenty of rest. I have had 13 more rounds of chemo since July, another one set for next Friday and will meet with my oncologist to see what he says about my latest scans and if he wants to put me on chemo pills.

@Journaling4Me Thank you so much. I never refuse a prayer and believe in the power of them.

@cherokeepatti Oh my goodness. I am so so so sorry. That is just so much to deal with. I am at a loss for words. You are just dealing with so much, yet you are on here helping people, like me, out. You are a seriously selfless person, and this is so rare in the world today. It is my honor to have you comment on my post. I (my whole family) will pray for you.🙏

@Journaling4Me I have been through many things in my life that could have destroyed me physically or mentally. As painful as those things were to go through I believe that they made me stronger. About 30 years ago after having some incidents happen I made a list of close calls (this is just one part of it) and realized that so many of them could have ended badly for me and yet they didn’t. I wondered why my life had been spared so many times and really believe there is a reason for it. I have something that I need to do before the end of my life and haven’t done it yet. So I’ll fight till that happens. We only have one day to live and that is the present day, that’s the way I am looking at life now and don’t worry about the future. I feel like it is getting close to that time the way things are going in the world.
