I Think Boo-Boo Knew It Was Sunday…When I Woke Up This Morning He Was Saying “Pancakes”….

Maybe he links hearing the Sunday Morning Show opening with pancakes that I sometimes make on Sunday mornings. He said it several times.

@BizSuitStacy He is smart too, understands and remembers a lot more than I would have ever imagined.
@cherokeepatti I always enjoy your Boo-Boo stories.

@BizSuitStacy Yeah it’s something every day with that little character. I got up early on Tuesday to go to the discount stores. I went to sleep earlier the night before and hadn’t cleaned their cages. Boo-Boo saw me getting things done earlier & I think he had a clue I was going out shopping for at least half of the day because that’s about the only time I’ll get up 30 minutes earlier. He started asking “Will you clean my cage?”…wasn’t saying it in a demanding tone like he does sometimes. After about 30 minutes he says it again and then adds “Need” after saying it. Like he NEEDS his cage cleaned & fresh food before I leave the house. The morning before I asked Siri what the temperature was going to be because the boy was wanting to wear shorts to school. Boo-Boo said “Siri” after he heard me. I ask the temperature quite a bit to see if it’s warm enough to put them out in the sunroom.
@cherokeepatti Amazing. I've never had a bird as a pet, but your parakeets are fascinating

@BizSuitStacy I’ve had parakeets off & on most of my life since I was a toddler. Some of them talked, maybe a few words or a phrase or two. But I’ve never had parakeets interact, say such relevant things, ask questions, repeat phone conversations that they’ve eavesdropped on, or picked up phrases they’ve heard on tv like the parakeets I’ve gotten since about 2003. I had no pets in 2003 and went to a yard sale. A lady had a tall cage on a stand with 4 parakeets, each a different color, for sale for $45 and she included toys, about 4 pounds of seed & gravel in that. I wanted to get a parakeet again but had no cage and knew that was a real bargain because the cage & stand would have been over $100 at Petsmart & it looked almost new. So I bought them and brought them home. Set the cage up in the living room. They were shy at first and didn’t say anything. Any time someone came over they’d look at them and say “Oh you got birds, what kind are they?” I’d tell them parakeets. Within a few days they were saying “Parakeet”. Picked it up that quickly. I would put them out on the covered deck when the weather was decent and bring them back inside other times & put them in the living room where they could see me in the kitchen. They started talking and asking me what I was cooking, what I was fixing, etc. And I always replied back to them, I think it encouraged them to talk more. They would hear me say something on the phone and repeat it after I said something relevant maybe weeks or months later. These last few birds I’ve had are even better in talking and saying things that are relevant. She is from Thailand and understood every word that he said.

@BizSuitStacy the boy was in FaceTime with his friends and brought the parakeets in his room to show them. I don’t know if they believed him how well they talked but he had told them that Boo-Boo would say “Parakeet, Parakeet, We Don’t Care.” When I would fuss at him for flapping his wings and stirring up feathers and making a mess. The way he said it sounded like a little poem so I would tell him “Parakeet, Parakeet, We Don’t Care…We Drink Beer In Our Underwear” because I wanted to make a rhyme for them. Well that afternoon while he was on FaceTime Boo-Boo said the whole thing and it tickled those boys, he spoke clear enough that they heard & understood. One of them said he was going to get parakeets and he bought 4 and a big cage. The funny thing was that boy who bought the birds had a little brother in 1st grade at the same school he went to (private school through 8th grade) and he was in the room when Boo-Boo said that. He went to school one day and said it in the classroom and someone told the big brother and asked where he got it 🤭🥴
@cherokeepatti That's too cute. I never realized parakeets "talked" until you started sharing your stories. A couple of my friends had family parrots. Supposedly, they would talk, but never when I was around.

@BizSuitStacy I think most birds are a bit shy & reserved until they get to know people. There was an African Grey parrot at the pet store where I buy seeds etc and he was in the room with the other birds that were for sale. I would go in to look at the birds every trip there and that parrot would look at me as I was talking to him but never said anything back until I opened the door to leave. Then he would do this robot sound and say a couple of things as I was walking out. I think he wanted me to stay and he did it every time. I had one parakeet, Baby, that would talk a lot. My friend came over for lunch and I went to the bathroom right after she got there. When I walked back into the living room I heard her say “I am not allowed to touch anything?” She was looking at something and touching it and Baby started saying “What are you doing?” 😂. I told him to be nice.
