Candy They Don't Make Anymore

My mom loved weird candy. Have you ever had those marshmellow Circus Peanuts? horrible.

How about orange slices? They are like orange gumdrops but in slices.

Chocolate covered cherries? love those things.

Mary Janes that took your teeth out

She loved teaberry gum too. Just reminiscing....

Never did like gum/ Would give me jaw ache (TMJ?). But liked the rest.

@Heartlander i think the gum is from Kentucky...there were 3 kinds. Teaberry, Black jack and one other

@akindheart I also remember something called Kits. It was one of the penny candies, 4 or 5 tiny taffy squares in a stack.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Heartlander i don't remember those.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart They still have those. Hard to find but I’ve seen them at Big Lots and Winco sometimes. They are made in Morocco. I have some on my nightstand.

@akindheart Teaberry, BlackJack, Clove and Beeman are the flavors.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti THAT's IT!!! how did you know?
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti I was in Morocco in November. didn't see them

@akindheart Did you go to any of the medina’s with open-air markets in coastal cities? All of the coastal cities have fresh fish….I’ve seen it in Rabat, Essaouria , Asilah, Agadir, El Jadida, and Safi…they bring the catches in usually in the morning and the fish is really fresh. Marrakech probably doesn’t sell much because it takes so much longer to transport them there and most of the year is too hot to sell them in an open-air market, which would be much less expensive than buying any fish in a store with air conditioning and refrigerated coolers.

@cherokeepatti I was in Casablanca, Marrakech, Essaouria, Rabat, Fez and a couple other cities. we did go to medinas. i missed Fez because i got sick there. i bought silver jewelry for an unbelievable price.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart the fish probably sold out as quick as it got delivered then. Sardines seemed to be the cheapest kind of protein to cook in the coastal cities. They even make sandwiches with them to sell in the medina food carts. They were really good too. …. Seems like everybody gets sick in Morocco. I think it’s their homemade mayo that they put in foods and hanging meats in the open air. It’s good to bring Imodium any time you go there and ginger candy to carry in your purse too, to get it at the first hint.

@cherokeepatti i ate a caprese salad late at night. i was hungry and thought that would be good. it was drenched in olive oil. i don't know if it was the tomatoes or the oil but i was deathly sick. i had cipro, probiotics, digestive enzymes and liquid IV. that did the trick. my fever broke the next morning
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart could have been something in the veggies such as raw sewage in the field. Also it has happened in the history of Morocco that greedy unscrupulous business people will sell oils other than real cooking oils to small restaurants cheaply. They sold some type of airline fluid that sickened and killed many people way back in the 60’s I believe and it was in Fez. Also if you had meat earlier in the day it may have taken hours for the bacteria to set up and make you sick. I know I would get sandwiches sometimes and they always had mayo in them, raw eggs no good in the heat. And it could have been from the hanging meat that some were using. I usually don’t have long bouts of stomach viruses, not here in the USA. I will using feel it coming on and if I can drink lemon juice and water several times that day and it’ll pass. Also vinegar and water is a good germicide for the digestive system and kidney infections.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti i think it was either the tomatoes or the oil. it sat in my stomach. i have not been that sick for a long time. we had not eaten all day. i was starving. i didn't understand the menu or i could have gotten soup.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart Yeah soup would be pretty safe and I like their soup too. The Moroccan ladies that I have seen will usually take a spoon and scoop out the center of the tomatoes saying that it’s not good before they chop them for salads or cook with them.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti i immediately thought it was the tomatoes but with all that oil in myintestines...well you can imagine.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart you might be low on lipase which helps to digest fats. I know I am and have had digestive issues since 2 years ago when I went off the keto diet. I didn’t know why then but I got badly constipated. Probably low on enzymes for protein too. I just discovered apple cider vinegar plus digestive enzymes mix capsules plus betaine & peptin is exactly what I needed. I have had a hard time for several months and this is the first real relief that I have gotten. If I miss any one of those 3 then I am in serious trouble again for most of a week till I straighten myself out with that routine again. Any day I am straightened out I have a lot more energy.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti wow...i have to look into that. i just know i was really sick.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart It can make you so sick you are confined to a recliner chair till you jump up and run to the bathroom and you’re whole day is shot when it’s at it’s worst. I also have a sensitive to sugar alcohols and monkfruit apparently. One batch of muffins or a waffle sweetened with it triggers my digestive system badly and it takes days to heal up.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti oh wow...that is something. i don't have those problems but i can imagine how terrible it is.
