That’s what we had on the farm. We never went out and bought ice cream because we had dairy cows. Different farmers took turns having an ice cream social for friends in our area. Everyone brought their ice cream freezers and fixings to make their favorite kind. The ladies baked cookies to go with the ice cream. We’d get there and children would play games outside in the yard. The men would gather up and start cranking the churns and talk. The women would stay inside and make coffee and fix the platters full of cookies. It was fun to try so many different kinds of ice cream. But something about homemade ice creams that I didn’t like was that they melted so fast. We’d have to eat it in a hurry instead of relaxing and then get an ice cream headache. There is a way that Iearned to keep the ice cream from melting so fast. Make it with Jello. The gelatin in it keeps it firmer for a longer period of time. A lady I knew made strawberry ice cream with fresh strawberries and a box of gelatin, believe that she heated the cream, milk, and sugar and added the gelatin and then cooled the mixture and froze it. It was really good.

@cherokeepattiWow!!!! That sounds like it must have been sooo much fun. I can just imagine how wonderful it must have been. Adding gelatin to it is a great idea!!! Thank you so much for sharing this great memory, advice, and recipe. I really do appreciate it!!😀

Sorry you can't have sugar stuff . Maybe try sweetening with different fruits . Kind of jelly i buy . Simply fruit . We use electric these days , but have a few of the hand crank . We used to take turns cranking , But we wanted most was the paddles from inside . They would pull it out and put in trey . Five or more children eating off and out of it . Seemed to be best part of the ice cream ❤ 🦋 🌹

@anoderod55 Aww, yes, I well remember the paddles and arguing with the cousins about who got to have them..😀
@SW-User You freeze the bananas before using them, and whirl them in the blender with milk, chocolate protein powder, and add a couple of ice cubes. It's like a chocolate shake! You can freeze and use strawberries instead of bananas, too!
