Those spices create endorphins and also are natural anti inflammatory painkillers. They probably associated the lessening of pain in various parts of the body with eating the spicy food and get addicted to it.
There's a point where the heat over powers the flavor of the food, and fries your taste buds. At that point, food becomes more of an amusement park ride. That's a bit too hot for me, but I know some people enjoy that.
@Adrift If I wanted hot salsa I’d buy fresh ingredients and make it in a Mason jar attached to my blender top. Can put as many hot peppers and other ingredients as you want.
@cherokeepatti I actually do that. I grow my own tomatoes and peppers and can salsa every year. My neighbors are from Mexico so we kind of have a little contest going on.
