Do you make your own mashed potatoes? 🤤

If yes: How do you make it?
If no: Why not?

Context: I'm currently eating a bit of mashed potatoes that I made with a dash of garlic butter, with gravy, lingonberry jam and meatballs

Yep, I wash the potato, cut it up in chunks with the skin still on, boil until soft, add butter and milk and mash by hand. I dont' season them, but do salt and pepper them when I plate them.

@Ontheroad When I have new potatoes from my garden, I keep the skins on too.

@JimboSaturn the skins add flavor and contain something like 12 times more antioxidants than the flesh of the potato. I've never grown potatoes in my garden, but I imagine fresh, homegrown potatoes are delicious.

@Ontheroad I just started growing them last year; they are amazing! Yes the skins taste good too.

@Ontheroad i dont understand why you wouldnt season them

@MartinTheFirst It's mainly because I like the flavor of the potato with pieces of skin in them and adding a bit of salt and lots of pepper does it for me. I don't dislike garlic mashed potatoes, and have on occasion made or ordered them when dining out, but they aren't my all time favorite go to. I however never put gravy on the... except at Thanksgiving and then it's Turkey gravy.

@Ontheroad Nah but I mean you should add the salt and pepper while in the mixing process, it incorporates the spices better

@MartinTheFirst I find adding them when I'm cooking the potatoes dilutes the enhancement of the salt and I end up putting more on when I eat them. Also allows others to season them to their liking.

@Ontheroad That's when you put more salt in, stir a bit, let it dilute, more salt! 😊

@MartinTheFirst Ha! At my age more salt is not a good thing. 😉
