They won't avoid trump's tariffs. For 5 months a year 100% of all of our tomatoes come from Mexico. Get ready to pay 25% more for every one you buy.

Botanically, it's a fruit. But I'm sure we know this

And during the Reagan administration, salsa was famously declared to be a vegetable for purposes of school lunch programs.

Like Bumbles alluded to. Vegetable is a purely culinary term for anything edible plant or anything edible from a plant that isn't grain. Fruits are technically speaking vegetables but the two terms are strictly related to how the the thing in question is used culinary. In cuisine the tomato is typically used as a vegetable, just like cucumbers are.

Legally in the States perhaps, but the rest of the world knows that it is a fruit.
jehova · 31-35, M
@novaguy2u yes i agree. And now i know why the debate even exists. Only leafy greens seeds stems branches and flowers of a plant are vegetables. The leaf on an apple stem is a vegetable.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
The term vegetable has no scientific definition other than edible plant.
