Can you eat kiwi fruit 'raw'?

If you wash it could you eat them like an apple or do you always have to peel them?

I think you can't, my friend at work says you can.

I went with one regular (not the thin peel) raw once, as part of a challenge, and it's doable but you have to chew a lot. Also the hairy texture isn't pleasant. But yes, technically you can.

I usually slice the kiwi and eat the slices with the skin on. Fiber. I also use kiwi peeled as in a parfait
