Can you eat kiwi fruit 'raw'?

If you wash it could you eat them like an apple or do you always have to peel them?

I think you can't, my friend at work says you can.

you mean the really tough hairy kiwis or the smooth ones? I ate a hairy one once to prove a point. But I will not do it a second time. The texture was gross.

@Scribbles The smooth ones are likely to be Kiwifruit Gold. The unique 🥝 taste has been bred out of them. Genetically Modified I believe.
